Sealants are placed on molar teeth only until age 13 to prevent decays on the chewing surface. Sealants are an intermediate preventing step in delaying or preventing tooth decay.

Fluoride helps preventing tooth decay by slowing the breakdown of enamel. It also helps to remineralize the tooth to prevent gum disease and help with sensitive teeth.
